Casino managers hold most of the keys to keeping employees on the job and reducing turnover, but many of them do not have the skills to do that. The gaming industry has been growing so rapidly that many of the people in critical management positions have little or no management experience. Most have not had any formal training on how to nurture and manage employees and reduce employee turnover. Thus, training of supervisors and managers may be a relatively inexpensive method for reducing turnover.
To help casinos understand and deal with this issue, we have published a white paper on casino employee turnover. Those interested in obtaining a copy of the white paper should e-mail Lydia at lbaird@casinocustomerservice.com or call her at 206-774-8856.

Retention of employee advocates is critical to reducing employee turnover at casinos.
Employee advocates are not likely to quit their jobs. They are so happy at the casino that, of their own free will, they encourage people to play there and recommend the property to friends as a great place to work. Thus, retention of these important staff members will keep sufficient numbers and types of employees at the property to increase the organization’s effectiveness, support growth and encourage the development of additional employee advocates.

Although many casinos struggle to lower their level of employee turnover, they should understand that a certain amount of turnover is a good thing. Employee turnover does not always have negative consequences. Turnover opens the door for the hiring of new talent. Sometimes, new employees bring fresh ideas, new approaches, wonderful attitudes and valuable skills. That can help a casino avoid becoming a stagnant place to work.
